A branch network unlike any other

Liberty Bank operated one of the largest retail banking networks in Georgia — approximately 500 service centres and up to 700 ATMs — serving around 1.7 million retail clients and more than 60,000 SME customers at the point of sale.

Since 2005 the bank has been the sole distributor of state pensions and social welfare payments in Georgia, a mandate that runs to at least 2030 and gave it an unmatched reach into every corner of the country.

Hunnewell's involvement

Hunnewell Partners had been involved with Liberty Bank since 2017, when European Financial Group B.V. acquired a controlling stake. Over the following years the firm supported the modernisation of the bank's product platform and the continued build-out of its retail franchise.

In April 2026 Basisbank completed the acquisition of 95.99% of Liberty Bank, marking a full exit for Hunnewell and its investors. Proceeds are being recycled into the firm's next generation of investments.

03

Community footprint

During Hunnewell's ownership the bank ran its #Libertywithheart programme, signed a Memorandum with UNFPA covering health and gender-equality initiatives across more than sixty communities, and funded utilities for foster homes and 52 day shelters — an annual commitment in the order of GEL 500,000.
