The Caucasus's largest metallurgical complex
Rustavi Steel is Georgia's principal ferrous metallurgy producer and the largest metallurgical complex in the South Caucasus. The plant sits at the heart of the town of Rustavi, 30km south of Tbilisi, and employs more than 1,300 people.
Its product range — rebar, seamless pipes, square billets, castings, silicon-manganese and lime — supplies the domestic construction market and export customers across the EU, the United States, the Middle East, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Modernisation and reinvestment
Under Hunnewell's ownership the plant has undergone a sustained restructuring and modernisation programme, focused on automation, energy efficiency and proprietary extraction and recycling technology — cutting production cost and improving environmental performance.
In 2019 the group invested in a new electric arc furnace, resuming round-billet production for the first time since 1985 and feeding the plant's growing seamless-pipe capacity. Seamless pipes are now sold under the Rustavi Steel brand and set the quality benchmark for the Georgian market.
Governance
The Board is chaired by Irakli Rukhadze and includes Benjamin Marson, Matthew Jenkins, David Vepkhvadze and Lana Berulava, alongside Chief Executive Nugzar Kachukhashvili and Deputy Chief Executive Archil Melikadze.
